How does the Common App support my students?
Think of the Common App as your students’ cost-free gateway to college. With instant access to nearly 700 colleges and universities across the country – and the world – the Common App is the most seamless way to manage the application process. We make it simpler by collecting all of your students’ information in one place, eliminating the need to repeat the details of their home, education, activities, and exams for every college on their list.
How does the Common App support school counselors?
You want to help your students, and we want to help you. We provide rich and varied online resources, such as the Virtual Counselor and Common App Ready – a comprehensive training resource to help you introduce the Common App to your students. With 24/7 support available through our Solutions Center, we take the "how-to" burden off of your shoulders – enabling you to spend more time doing what counts: guiding your students through a thoughtful, successful college search.
How does the Common App support recommenders?
Letters of recommendation play a critical role in the admission process at many institutions. They provide colleges with a firsthand account of a student’s strengths and offer unique insight regarding a student’s potential for success. And while the process of writing letters of recommendation can be rewarding, it can also be a time-consuming and complicated undertaking to manage. This is where we can help. Learn about resources such as Common App Ready and Account Rollover, and find out how these can be beneficial to your students.
With the Common Application Recommender System, we make it easy for any teacher, counselor, coach, mentor, or other recommender to submit supporting documents virtually – from anywhere in the world. Whether the document is a transcript or a letter of recommendation, there is no cost for submission, and you’ll have the ability to track submitted documents and any outstanding tasks. In other words, you can leave the tactical management of documents to us so that you can focus on writing your students’ letters of recommendation.
The Virtual Counselor
What is The Virtual Counselor?
With the ultimate goal of advancing college access, we want all students to feel supported throughout the college preparation and application processes. Unfortunately, not all students have a resource that they can turn to for trusted guidance – so we’re changing that. The Virtual Counselor will serve as a content library filled with helpful college-related advice for students and parents. Topics will range from high school course selection to financial aid and everything in between.
How You Can Help
As we build-out the Virtual Counselor, we’re looking for contributors – knowledgeable school counselors, teachers, admission officers and college educators with a dedication to their students and a shared mission for advancing access to higher education. This is your chance to share your expertise with an international audience beyond the walls of your school. If you’re interested in helping millions of students and parents around the world, please contact Jen Davis at email@example.com.
Common App staff are constantly on the road — hosting events, speaking at conferences, and connecting with leaders in the field.
Wondering where we’re heading next? It might be your area! Stay up-to-date with our events calendar. No matter your role in the college admission process, we’d love to meet you and hope to see you in the near future.
