First-year

At Barton College, students who are in the process of receiving a high school diploma, GED, in an early college or dual enrollment program, and that have not attended any college or university after graduation are considered a first-year applicant.

To be considered for admission you must:

  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent with a total of at least 13 college preparatory units. We recommend the following selection of courses (except where minimum requirements apply):
    • English (4-unit minimum required)
    • Mathematics (3-unit minimum required, including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II)
    • Natural Science (2 units, including one laboratory science)
    • Social Science (3 units)
    • A foreign language is not required, but it will be counted toward the 13-unit minimum.
  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing Program (ACT). You won’t be granted or denied admission automatically solely on your test scores. The submission of SAT or ACT scores may be waived if you are 21 or older and it has been at least three years since you graduated from a high school.

*Barton College is currently test-optional for admissions applications.*

Transfer

At Barton College, students who have received a high school diploma, GED, and attended a college or university for a semester or more are considered a transfer student.

To be admitted to Barton College as a transfer student, you must have a minimum 2.0 transfer grade point average (GPA) in a minimum of 12 transferable credit hours. Admission of a student whose GPA is less than 2.0, or whose transferable credit hours amount to less than 12, will be at the discretion of the Director of Admissions.

You must also be eligible to return to your last institution. For students planning to enroll in professional programs such as nursing, education, or social work, you must first obtain admission to the college and then individual acceptance into the major program. Though nursing requires a minimum 2.9 GPA for admission, education requires a minimum 2.50 GPA for admission, and social work requires a minimum 2.00 GPA for admission, acceptance is not automatic.

At Barton, we’ve made applying for financial aid easy. All it takes is one form — the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA allows the federal government to determine how much your family can be expected to contribute to educational expenses. When you apply for financial aid, the amount you’re awarded is based on the difference between the cost of attending Barton and this expected contribution.

  1. Complete the FAFSA. You can fill out the application online at www.fafsa.gov.
  2. Enter Barton’s school code (002908-00) on your FAFSA so that we’ll receive your information as soon as it is processed.
  3. Submit your FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1 but no later than May 1. If you apply after May 1, you will be considered only for whatever funds are still available.
