Dickinson College

Dickinson College

Dickinson was the first college chartered after the United States became a country in 1783, and we’ve been providing our students with a revolutionary education ever since. That’s 234 years of pioneering in fields like international studies, foreign languages, security studies and neuroscience. And Dickinsonians are not just pioneering in the classroom—they’re exporting their useful, liberal-arts experiences for internships, externships, student-faculty research and fieldwork. They engage the world as graduates, committed to being leaders and finding innovative ways to serve the common good.

Discover What’s Different

As the first college founded after the United States became a country, we’ve been seeing and doing things differently for a long time. We have 43 academic majors, most with a global reach and just as many offering interdisciplinary paths. No matter where you’re from, you’ll find kindred spirits on our historic 144-acre campus: Our diverse community is home to students from 40 states and 43 countries. And odds are you’ll leave campus to explore the wider world while here: About 60 percent of our students study abroad (nationally it’s under 5 percent). Our location in Carlisle, Pa., is part of a vibrant downtown setting, so students are in walking distance to a wealth of restaurants, shops and local event. We encourage you to come visit Dickinson to discover firsthand our community of tradition and innovation.
