Known as "Sewanee," the University of the South is more than a college. It's where you'll find the unexpected discoveries, roaring successes, and tiny epiphanies that will allow you to chart your path. As a nationally ranked liberal arts institution we expose our students to a range of disciplines and teach them to explore how seemingly disparate subjects are connected. Small classes foster meaningful connections with professors, yielding tailored experiences both inside the classroom and beyond. And when you receive your diploma, you'll find that what you've gained is an experience that has shaped your place in the world.>

Applying to Sewanee is free and test-optional. We're looking to say yes. It's how you craft your application that allows us to do so. A strong high school performance demonstrating consistent or increasing strength in coursework is paramount in our review. We additionally require two letters of recommendation. As a close community, we benefit from students who are 'all-in,” we pay special attention to your engagement with us through campus events, college fairs, appointments, phone calls, etc. Visit our website to learn more about domestic and international student admission requirements.
While we are saddened when students decide to apply or enroll elsewhere, Sewanee always hopes that a student’s experience–wherever it may be–is a positive one shaped by formative challenges, intellectual inspiration, and unexpected discovery.
However, we understand that sometimes that unexpected discovery comes in the form of the realization that the school you are attending isn’t quite the place for you. Whether your academic or career goals have shifted or you just haven’t found your community, we would love to see your application. Sewanee strives to ensure equitable access to a world-class education. Thanks to alumni generosity and strong University leadership, Sewanee provides more than $50 million in institutional aid each year and offers academic scholarships up to the full cost of attendance. Still, we recognize that college is an investment. To provide the most out of that investment, Sewanee has made a pledge to all students, guaranteeing access to funding for a summer internship or research fellowship, a semester-long study-away program at no additional tuition cost, and a single-major degree in four years (if not, Sewanee will provide up to one additional year of study tuition-free).
