First-year

At Smith we look at the whole applicant and do not rely on a test score to define your potential for academic success. Your academic record, extracurricular activities, essay, recommendation letters, personal accomplishments and characteristics, and engagement in your community are all carefully considered during our review and selection process.

First year applicants may apply to Smith under one of three decision plans: Early Decision I, Early Decision II, and Regular Decision. There is no application fee. The submission of SAT or ACT scores is optional for all applicants.

International applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency and may be required to submit testing. Please see our website for more details.

Transfer

Transfer students must have completed at least one semester at any of a variety of institutions, including four-year private and public colleges and universities, community and junior colleges, and international institutions. Women who are 24 or older, a veteran or have a dependent other than a spouse must apply to Smith as Ada Comstock Scholars. Smith uses the Common Application for all transfer student types (Traditional Transfer, Ada Comstock Scholars, and Visiting Students.) Please be sure to select the applicable program when applying. There is no application fee.

Additional Information

Financial Aid: Smith College welcomes and supports qualified students from all economic backgrounds. As part of the college's commitment to access, affordability and equity, Smith has eliminated loans from its undergraduate financial aid packages for those students receiving institutional need-based aid, replacing those funds with institutional grants. The college will meet the full documented need, as determined by college policy, of all admitted students who apply for aid by the published deadlines.

When to Apply for Aid: You must not wait until you have been accepted to Smith to apply for aid. Any student who may need institutional financial assistance during her tenure at Smith should apply for aid by the financial aid deadlines.

Smith College is a member of the Five College Consortium: The Five College Consortium (Amherst, Hampshire and Mt. Holyoke Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts), brings together the area's 30,000 students in a dynamic community. Students benefit from a wide selection of faculty and courses; shared use of educational and cultural resources and facilities, including a joint automated library system; joint departments and programs; and convenient, fare-free transportation between campuses.

"At Smith, I've discovered that I'm a lot more capable than I thought. Being at a women's college has given me the confidence to explore new experiences, and being at Smith has taught me that I can do whatever inspires me."
