First-year

At the University of Houston, you'll find degree programs that will pave the way to the future you envision—whether you want to build the physical foundations of the future as an engineer or architect, shape young minds as an educator, or study how far humanity has already come as an anthropologist. These are just a few of the areas of study available, taught by world-renowned faculty members. You are a freshman if you are a student without college credit, or have earned college credit prior to high school graduation (dual credit/early college high school), or earned less than 15 transferable hours of college credit after earning a GED or high school diploma. Transfer

You are a transfer student if you are a student who earned 15 or more transferable hours of college credit after high school graduation (during fall/spring semester) and are not a former UH undergraduate student. Additional Information

First-year applicants are automatically considered for scholarships if they apply by our November 1^st Priority Scholarship Deadline – there is no separate application needed. Transfer applicants are automatically consider for scholarships if they apply by our May 15^th Priority Scholarship Deadline. Students must also file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) to be considered for need-based awards. With the Cougar Promise, Texas residents with financial need and family adjusted gross incomes (AGI) of up to $65,000 will have their tuition and mandatory fees completely covered. Families with AGIs of up to $125,000 are eligible for partial tuition support.
