The Common Application has announced its new Executive Director, Jenny Rickard, who will start on August 15, 2016. Ms. Rickard’s expertise embodies each area of college enrollment management, including admission, marketing communications, technology, and financial aid. Her appointment is the result of an extensive and highly competitive national search led by Witt/Kieffer.
“The Common Application is a proven engine for advancing college access. One-third of the applicants to our nearly 700 member institutions are the first in their families to attend college,” said Ms. Rickard. “I believe deeply in the transformative effect that higher education has on individuals and our society. I’m committed to expanding access to such an experience and supporting my colleagues and their institutions as we all navigate the increasingly dynamic and complex enrollment landscape.”
Ms. Rickard has shown a strong commitment to access as evidenced by her accomplishments as the chief enrollment officer at both Puget Sound and Bryn Mawr and in admission roles at Swarthmore and New York University School of Law. Her extensive service within the national higher education community includes a wide range of roles with the College Board, Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS), US Department of Education, and The Common Application Board of Directors - serving as Board President in 2007.
“We are delighted that our new Executive Director comes not only with business and technology experience, but also knowledge of The Common Application membership and a dedication to the students, counselors, and partners who are working to advance college access,” said Gil J. Villanueva, Chair of The Common Application Board of Directors and Associate Vice President and Dean of Admission at the University of Richmond.
Within the corporate field, Ms. Rickard was Vice President for Higher Education Strategy at PeopleSoft. She also consulted for the higher education software company Datatel and started her career on Wall Street at J.P. Morgan & Co.
Ms. Rickard received a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania; a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University, Stern School of Business; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Swarthmore College.
