Common Application Staff Provide Guidance, Encouragement at Area High Schools

The Common Application Supports College Access Fairfax in Application Workshops

Throughout November, National College Application Month, staff from The Common Application visited public high schools in Fairfax County, VA to help students onsite with their applications for a project with College Access Fairfax. College Access Fairfax is an organization that assists parents and students, many of which are the first in their family to go to college, in understanding the financial aid system.

“We are extremely pleased to partner with The Common Application on this project,” said College Access Fairfax Founder and Chairman Tessie Wilson. “We are all working to help students access post secondary education, and we look forward to collaborating on other projects to achieve that goal.”

Seniors at Falls Church, J.E.B. Stuart, and Mount Vernon High Schools, many of which were first generation students, received one-on-one support from College Access Fairfax and Common Application staff on creating their Common Applications, reviewing personal essays, and researching scholarship opportunities.

"Having Common Application staff visit these local high schools to connect  with students is an important step," said  CEO Paul Mott. “We want to learn from these experiences –  especially those in our own community – what else we may do to serve students in communities across this country and close the equity gap too many face when applying to college.”
