Back to School Counselor Tips and Resources
Welcome back to school, counselors! We hope you had a restful summer and are recharged and ready for a new year ahead.
Before the year gets into full swing, we hope you’ll take some time to get familiar with the latest updates to Common App, as well as the resources that will support you and your students throughout the process.
Get to know Common App
Earlier this month, we introduced our redesigned application and website to the world. We’re excited that these changes will create a simpler and more logical application experience for students and their supporters - the many counselors, teachers, coaches, mentors, and advisors that work with students every year to help them realize their college dreams.
Our most recent webinar provides extensive detail about application enhancements for the year, new diverse college options for students, simplified college search, mobile and accessibility updates, and improved workflows for both applicants and recommenders. If you missed the live webinar, you can listen to the recording here.
If you’re working with transfer students this year on their applications, don’t miss our upcoming webinar dedicated to the transfer application, What’s New with Common App for transfer, on Sept. 11 at 2pm ET. Be sure to register!
As you prepare for the year ahead, bookmark these key resources to help you address all aspects of the application process with your students:
Common App Ready: This complete toolkit has been updated and redesigned with best practices to help you introduce Common App to your students and their families.
Live members: New members go live with Common App on a regular basis. Check this page throughout the application year to find out which schools are currently live.
Writing requirements resource: Using this resource, students can view all writing requirements for each college or university on their My Colleges list.
Integration Partners Information: Over the last year, we have expanded the number of partner services that integrate with Common App in support of our counseling community. Learn more about these new partners and how to use their services to submit forms and recommendations on behalf of your students.
Upcoming YouTube Series: A Student’s Guide to Your First Year of College: On September 10, YouTube will launch a new series featuring Former First Lady Michelle Obama. The 10-episode playlist will address many aspects of the college experience, including applying for financial aid, finding mentors, and campus life as a first-year student.
What we’re working on: We respond quickly to issues with the application that are reported to us. As issues arise, we’ll note them in the Solutions Center on our Known Issues page and keep you updated on fixes.
Our recorded What’s New With Common App webinar will walk you through the latest updates to the system, how the new Common App website will enhance the college exploration and preparation process, our upcoming access initiatives, and more.
We are looking forward to the NACAC annual conference in September and hope to see you in Louisville!
