At Piedmont College, a student is considered a “first year applicant” if they have not attended any college since high school. Students who are dual-enrolled in college courses while they are/were in high school are still considered first year students even if they have enough college credit to be classified as a sophomore or higher. If you have already graduated, you will still be considered first year until you have taken a college course of any sort post-graduation.
At Piedmont College, a student is considered a “transfer applicant” if they have attended any college since they graduated high school or obtained a GED. This could mean you have one credit hour or 120 credit hours and you’d still be considered a transfer. However, you will only be able to attend our Athens campus if you have 30 or more transferable credit hours.
Our website for those who wish to visit our college is located at https://www.piedmont.edu/visit. You have the option to do either a virtual visit or an on-site visit. If you choose to do an on-site visit, we have two campuses to choose from. The Demorest campus is open to both transfers and first year students. The Athens campus is open only to transfers who are coming in with 30 or more credit hours. Clicking either the Visit Demorest or Visit Athens links on the website will give you a detailed summary of what to expect.
