A total of 1,527,328 distinct first-year applicants submitted 10,786,782 applications, reflecting a 6% increase from the previous year. Applicants applied to an average of 7.06 institutions, up from 6.79 in the 2024–25 academic year.</p>\n\n<p>Key findings include:</p>\n\n<ul><li style=\"padding-bottom:15px;\">First-generation applicants grew by 6%, while continuing-generation applicants declined by less than 1%.</li>\n\t<li style=\"padding-bottom:15px;\">Students from below-median income ZIP codes grew by 8% over 2024-25, outpacing their peers from above-median income ZIP codes (2%).</li>\n\t<li style=\"padding-bottom:15px;\">Applications to public member institutions grew by 7%, surpassing the 5% growth seen in private institutions.</li>\n\t<li style=\"padding-bottom:15px;\">The number of international applicants decreased by 10%. There was a pronounced drop in applicants from Asia (-11%) and Africa (-17%), with notable declines in applicants from India (-15%) and Ghana (-34%). Meanwhile, applicants from the Americas increased by 5% compared to 2024-25.</li>\n</ul><p>These trends underscore a continued diversification of the applicant pool, with notable increases in applications from underrepresented and first-generation students.</p>\n"}}]}}]}}},"pageContext":{"drupalNodeId":54666,"breadcrumbCategory":null}},
