We approach learning with enthusiasm, energy, and a distinctly Carleton brand of playfulness. This is a collaborative place where students and professors work together to make sense of the messiness of life. With 54 majors and minors to choose from, you can explore your interests – and develop new ones. Located in the friendly college town of Northfield, Minnesota, we're just 40 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Often cited for its charm and livability, Northfield consistently ranks among the best college towns.

First-year

First year applicants are typically students who have not graduated high school, or have not taken any college classes after graduating high school. Students who are taking college classes as part of the high school experience (in programs like PSEO, CIS, Running Start, Early College High Schools, etc.) should apply as first year applicants.

Transfer

Transfer applicants are typically students who have taken college classes after high school graduation. This includes students who are currently enrolled in a college degree program, as well as students who have taken classes on an ad hoc basis. Transfer students do not need to be currently enrolled in college to be considered transfer applicants. Students who are taking college classes as part of the high school experience (in programs like PSEO, CIS, Running Start, Early College High Schools, etc.) should apply as first year applicants.

Visit us

Visiting campus is a great way to figure out if Carleton's the place you want to call home. We're open year-round, though specific activities depend on when you visit. On most days, we offer group information sessions and walking tours of campus. We can sometimes offer class visits or meetings with a student host. To help us create a meaningful visit for you, we ask that you arrange your visit at least two weeks in advance. We also offer virtual visit opportunities.

Carleton students are incredibly supportive, passionate, and collaborative people. In my time here I've been challenged and supported by my friends, classmates, and professors to follow my passions and try new things.
