Located in the heart of the Portland Arts District, Maine College of Art & Design has transformed a former department store into the main campus building with vibrant classrooms with a 10:1 student to faculty ratio and studios that are open 24/7. Located in MECA's Porteous Building, the Institute of Contemporary Art at MECA serves a critical regional role in its commitment to presenting contemporary, provocative work by living artists from Maine and around the globe. MECA's Joanne Waxman Library is one of the largest independent libraries in Northern New England.

Additional Information

At Maine College of Art 100% of our BFA degree students receive some type of financial assistance. Students at MECA receive more than $3 million annually in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and job opportunities. The College provides over $1.3 million directly to support the aid programs available to students. 

Merit-based scholarships range from $10,000–$21,000 per year and are renewable each year you are at MECA.

Open Houses
MECA offers Open Houses throughout the Fall and Spring, typically on Saturdays. They're a great way to meet students, faculty, and staff and see the campus. For the 2021–2022 year, we have both in-person and virtual options available.

Tours
Join us for tour to explore all 6 floors of our main building which includes studio departments, major spaces, the MECA Cafe, Library and the Institute of Contemporary Art, and residence halls. We also have virtual guided tours available.
