Applying to Sewanee is free and test-optional. We're looking to say yes. It's how you craft your application that allows us to do so. A strong high school performance demonstrating consistent or increasing strength in coursework is paramount in our review. We additionally require two letters of recommendation. As a close community, we benefit from students who are 'all-in,” we pay special attention to your engagement with us through campus events, college fairs, appointments, phone calls, etc. Learn more about first-year requirements here. International students must take an English proficiency exam.
While we are saddened when students decide to apply or enroll elsewhere, Sewanee always hopes that a student’s experience–wherever it may be–is a positive one shaped by formative challenges, intellectual inspiration, and unexpected discovery.
However, we understand that sometimes that unexpected discovery comes in the form of the realization that the school you are attending isn’t quite the place for you. Whether your academic or career goals have shifted or you just haven’t found your community, we would love to see your application. Sewanee strives to ensure equitable access to a world-class education. That’s why we meet full demonstrated need for all admitted students and offer merit-based scholarships ranging from $4,000 to the full cost of tuition. Still, we recognize that college is an investment. To provide the most out of that investment, Sewanee has made a pledge to all students, guaranteeing access to funding for a summer internship or research fellowship, a semester-long study-away program at no additional tuition cost, and a single-major degree in four years (if not, Sewanee will provide up to one additional year of study tuition-free).
