First-year

Students applying to the University of Montana without any college credit from another institution are considered first-year students. Those with credits from another institution are considered transfer students. Unsure? Please call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. We are happy to help.

Transfer

Students coming into the University of Montana with more than 12 credits from another institution are considered transfer students. Because your needs are specialized, we have a admissions representative dedicated just for you. Just call the office and ask to speak to our transfer coordinator.

Additional Information

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens each year October 1. At the University of Montana, we ask that students submit their FAFSA as close to that opening date as possible for consideration of the maximum amounts of aid. UM uses the FAFSA for many of its internal scholarships, as well, so filing as early in October as possible is advised. Some scholarships are automatically applied. Please see our website for more details.
