Additional Information

Macalester students thrive in a rigorous academic environment, where collective success is prioritized over competition. You’ll work side by side with your professors–in the classroom, in the lab, on stage, or on study away. Macalester’s small class size creates easy access to the guidance and support of your professors as you explore your academic and professional passions.

Located in a friendly residential neighborhood in the heart of a vibrant metropolitan area, Macalester offers accessible internship opportunities, giving students valuable hands-on experience and connection. Three out of four students complete an internship, often within a few miles of campus, at a Twin Cities business, law firm, state government entity, hospital, financial institution, theater, research lab, environmental agency, nonprofit group, and more.

Over 60 percent of students study away for one semester or more, selecting an immersive experience from a wide range of programs and countries.  Graduates enter the workforce or graduate school with a global perspective and real-world experience, prepared to succeed in their chosen fields.

Macalester provides a financial aid package equal to 100% of demonstrated financial need for every admitted student. Two out of three Macalester students receive need-based financial aid.

There are over 100 student organizations available. They reflect the diverse interests of our students and range in focus from art, comedy, culture, dance, forensics, gaming, and identity collectives, to investing, Mac radio, music ensembles, politics, religion, rocketry, and slam poetry.

Macalester has 19 varsity athletic teams as well as club and intramural sports. The athletic and wellness complex includes a large fitness center, indoor track, gymnasium, natatorium, field house, and more. Athletic teams frequently earn the highest cumulative GPA in the nation.

Visit us

Students and their families are welcome to engage with Macalester Admissions throughout the year! We encourage visitors to attend an Information Session followed by a student-led tour. These are offered Monday–Friday year-round and on Saturday mornings during the fall semester. Admissions interviews at Macalester are recommended for domestic applicants, but are not required. Due to capacity limitations, Macalester cannot accommodate requests for interviews from international applicants. Ways to explore campus and learn more about the Mac community can be found at macalester.edu/about/visit/.

I gravitate towards living in communities that look a little like Mac–diverse and daring, globally concerned, folks from across the globe.
