First-year

First-year applicants are those who will complete high school by the end of the current academic year. Students enrolled in concurrent high school and college courses are considered first-year candidates. Students who have elected to take time off from schooling between graduating from high school and enrolling in college are considered first-year candidates. Rice accepts first-year applications for early and regular decision. The early decision deadline is November 1; the regular decision deadline is January 4. More information regarding our application process can be found here.

Transfer applicants have completed a high school diploma (or an equivalent) and earned at least 12 semester hours of college credit after graduating high school. Rice accepts transfer applications for spring and fall matriculation. Applications for spring are due November 1; applications for fall are due March 15. More information regarding our application process can be found here.

Additional Information

Determining the right school comes down to several factors—often, the biggest one is affordability. At Rice, we believe that talent deserves opportunity. For domestic students we offer need-blind admission, which means we do not consider your finances when we review your application. Additionally, Rice meets 100% of demonstrated need for undergraduate admitted students inclusive of international students through financial aid, regardless of whether they qualify for The Rice Investment.

The Rice Investment
Students receiving aid under The Rice Investment will have all demonstrated need met without any loans. Families earning between $140,001 and $200,000 will be awarded a half tuition scholarship; families earning between $75,001 and $140,000 will be awarded a full tuition scholarship; and families earning $75,000 and below will be awarded a scholarship to cover full tuition, fees, room and board.

Merit Awards
The Office of Admission awards scholarships to approximately 20% of admitted students each year, with amounts ranging from $3,000 up to full tuition, and all merit awards are renewable for up to four years. There is no separate application or interview required.
