What’s made at the University of Montana is remaking the world. Founded in 1893, the University continues to reinvent the world as we know it through the courageous creativity of those who call it home. Today, Montana is proud to have over 10,000 Grizzlies across a variety of studies, including undergraduate and graduate programs and technical certifications, all of whom contribute their passion and practicality toward stewardship and sustainability for the world around us. A top-ranked research university, Montana’s impact is felt locally and globally, with Grizzlies going on to find success abroad as Rhodes Scholars and at home as Truman, Goldwater, and Udall Scholars. Known for unbridled curiosity and creativity unmatched on either side of the Rockies, the University of Montana strives to be both accessible and accountable — respected worldwide and responsive at home.

Additional Information

UM uses the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for many of its internal scholarships, so all new and returning students submit a completed FAFSA form each year. Undergraduate applicants are automatically considered for either the Western Undergraduate Exchange Program or the University of Montana Academic Achievement Scholarship. UM's Davidson Honors College offers premier academic scholarships, including the Presidential Leadership Scholarship, Provost’s Honors Scholarship, and the Dean’s Leadership Scholarship. If you’re a Montana resident from a family with an income of $50,000 or less, UM is dedicated to making sure your tuition is covered through the Grizzly Promise so you can attend tuition-free. The Payne Family Impact Scholarship fund is designed for students with a lot of need who aren’t able to get Federal Pell Grant eligibility. UM participates in the National Merit Scholarship Program and offers awards of $2,000 a year to finalists who have indicated UM as their first choice for attending college. Semi-finalists who enroll at UM receive an award of $1,000 a year.
