Applicants should have completed high school or the equivalent. Applicants who attend/attended another college or university but who did not complete a minimum of two semesters of full time study are considered as applicants for first year. There are three ways to apply; our Direct Application form, UCAS, or the Common Application. A completed application consists of the application form, a full high school transcript, a personal statement (called the Supplemental Essay on Common App) and an academic reference. Applicants apply to a specific programme and Faculty.
Transfer applicants should have completed two or more semesters of full-time study at a recognised institution. Transfer applicants must submit an official transcript from their current institution, and include an explanation of any non-standard marking systems. We also require an academic transcript from your high school containing your final-year marks. A copy of your university/college syllabus should be included to establish which of your courses are common to our degree programme. Where possible, we will transfer credits to the total needed for a degree award.
We encourage all prospective students to attend one of our in-person Visiting Days or a virtual Visiting Day. These opportunities allow you to meet with experienced advisers and academic staff, tour student accommodation, and find out about student life from current student Ambassadors. As well as Visiting Days, the university offers a regular Talk and Tour programme. This option includes a tour with a current student Ambassador and an information session run by staff from Admissions. A range of other virtual options are offered in order to assist anyone unable to travel to St Andrews. Please visit the "Meet Us" section of our website. We organise Admitted Student Events (ASEs) each spring and these are held around the world. Virtual ASEs are also offered.
I feel extremely privileged to have found a home away from home at St Andrews. The international community, challenging learning environment, and access to a wealth of opportunities in the UK and beyond were just a few of the attributes that drew me to St Andrews and have continued to impress me every day.
